5.0 out of 5 stars Among the best audio receivers out there, March 20, 2011
This review is from: Pioneer Elite SC-35 A/V Receiver (Electronics)
I've been using the SC-35 for several months and I am loving every minute of it. Whether its audio from a TV program, a movie or music the SC-35 is to audio as high def is to video. My previous receiver was an old $300 Onkyo unit which was not by any means bad, but compared to the SC-35 it just doesn't hold a candle.

    Sound Quality
    --------------------------
The main benefit of the SC-35 is its ICE amp, a full range Class D amplifier which provides high power levels to multiple channels without generating a lot of heat. My older receiver would heat up and radiate this heat even while playing at modest sound levels, while the SC-35 can play louder (with no distortion) and only get warm to the touch. Channel separation is a big indicator of quality when talking about multi-channel amps and the SC-35 does not fail. You get crisp, distinct channels so there is no "blurring" between any of them. This translates to a much more dynamic "sound field" when listening to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing rocks!!!!, December 1, 2010
This review is from: Pioneer Elite SC-35 A/V Receiver (Electronics)
5star on the reciever itself and 2 star for the remote. The remote is a non issue to me since using a Harmony remote in it's place. The remote works as should but nothing spectacular.

Came from a NAD T762 that had a great sound and this Pioneer to my ears has met and maybe even exceeded it in sound quality. I am exclusively using digital inputs such as digital coax, optical and HDMI. So I have no experience with it's analog inputs. HTPC connected digital coax, Dtv box HDMI, Pan BD100 3D player HDMI, 360 and PS3 both HDMI.

    HDMI experiences.
The HDMI passes 3D video to the TV as it should. When using the video enhancement it does lag the sound and require some tuning. Most of what I pass is already improved accept the standard def tv from DTV which when in enhanced mode it does improve the video a tad. No difference noted in HD content enhance on or off. So I just have the enhance turned off on all inputs.
With video gaming lag can be a problem. I have... Read more

If your looking at this reciever then you are probably already familiar with its connections and ICE amps. I compared a Denon 3311 and 4311 with this guy and for the price the Pioneer was the best. The only thing Denon had over the Pioneer was online firmware updates. The Denons had great sound but the Pioneer in my opinion seemed to offer slightly more punch. The Pioneer also had a cleaner looking face than the Denon's. Honestly either way you can't really go wrong... both Denon and Pioneer's products were amazing. The Pioneer has a very solid build and the ICE amps stay very cool. My old Onkyo was a space heater so the SC-35 is a huge upgrade in that area.

I purchased this mainly for movies, games and some music. My setup includes the following. Definitive Technology BP7004 L/R, Definitive Technology CLR 2500, Klipsch Surrounds, Epic Empire Sub, PS3, XBox 360, Panasonic g20 plasma. The system setup could not be easier. The manual needs work but if you turn it... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bang for your Buck!, September 23, 2010
    By
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-33 Elite Audio/Video Multi-Channel Receiver (Electronics)
I am an experience AV and tech person. I had Sunfire, Sony, NAD, even Macintosh. But as I got older I notice that technology has change and sound hasn't. Speakers sound the same and I am sticking with my Paradigms. My last receiver was an Onkyo great price for what it offered. I like new technology and I am early adopter. It's an expensive taste and now that i am older i will slow down on the latest and greatest. I have friends that spent over $5000 for their receiver and i cant tell the difference. The internet market has changed the way people buy and now i am here writing my first review. I explain a little bit about myself so you can understand where the review and point of view is coming from. I am also a CFO so i understand value.

There is nothing negative about this receiver, I highly recommend getting it. If you are smart you can get this $1000 receiver for $680 on the internet. I have the iPad and downloaded the iphone app from Pioneer and works great... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful receiver for the money!, January 7, 2011
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-33 Elite Audio/Video Multi-Channel Receiver (Electronics)
This is a great receiver for what I paid. I originally bought a YAMAHA and I spent two weeks tweaking the sound and failed to get rid of that cheap "boomy" bass. Not to mention the Yamaha lacked any "low mid-range" presence/quality. So I returned the Yamaha product and coincidentally my parents gave me an old vintage Pioneer Progression IV component stereo system they bought 25-30 years ago...back in the true hi-fi war days. To my delight it sounded so good that I decided to try a Pioneer receiver and purchased the VSX-33. This unit made my Polk Audio TSI 300s come alive...and with the VSX-33 I was able to bi-amp them. I'm not really sure if the bi-amping made a difference because I hooked it up that way from day one.....and was so astounded at the clarity of the sound versus the Yamaha RX-V567 that I didn't want to change a damn thing. (And I was so irritated with the Yamaha I tried everything you could imagine)

I did some research regarding the specifications between the... Read more

    5.0 out of 5 stars Great Receiver/Very Easy Set-up, February 2, 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-33 Elite Audio/Video Multi-Channel Receiver (Electronics)
This is a great product, and set-up is easy if you are only little bit technical. The sound and picture (HDMI passes through the receiver) are great.

The other cool features are tons of HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs. Also, you can feed anything in, S-Video, Composite or Component and it will upconvert and push it out to the TV. That really cut down on the mess of cables.

The receiver detects which component is running and automatically turns on. This is a great receiver and you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, feature rich and excellent video processing!, December 10, 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1121-K 7.1 Home Theater Receiver, Glossy Black (Electronics)
I pitted this AVR against a Denon AVR-2311CI. The Denon is a older model that is replaced by the 2312. In any case these 2 excel in different ways. First the pioneer, the video processing is a stand out!! With the Marvel video processing chip the HD on this was simply stellar! It made my old TV look as if I bought a new one. I had an Onkyo TX-SR605 before these two were brought in to test out. The Video on that old Onkyo doesnt do my TV justice. Not to mention I had issues with the HDMI on it several time. Onkyo packs lots of feature but that is where it stops. But back to the 1121, it is filled to the gills with features. I like the iControlAVS...fun, easy but doesnt do everything. The Apps are crude and need work. Pandora is hard to setup and the interface is not very pleasing. But it works and I do love internet radio. Power is excellent and plenty of it. The 1121 is also THX Select2 certified. So you get all the additional sound fields and the lucas seal of... Read more

This is an excellent overall receiver. The video and audio processing are wonderful and overall sound quality is crisp and clear. To those that are complaining about the difficulty in setting this receiver up....I don't know what to tell you, the GUI is easy to use and the MCACC makes things very simple with the included microphone. Okay, on to the nitty gritty.
    The Looks of the receiver:
This is a large unit, seriously, make sure you have enough room in your entertainment center for this beast. I replaced a Denon AVR 588 with this unit. The Denon fit comfortably within my entertainment centers cabinet. This unit is so large I have very little room left on the bottom shelf of the cabinet. The exterior of the unit is very clean looking with the front door closed. It has a nice and clean look to it, nothing too fancy but very functional.

    The performance: Video / Audio
Someone in an earlier review mentioned how great the video processing is on this unit... Read more

This review is from: Pioneer VSX-1121-K 7.1 Home Theater Receiver, Glossy Black (Electronics)
This is the first mid-range receiver I have owned and this beast does not disappoint. Hook up of 7.2 surround system was not difficult and the instructions were reasonably comprehensible. I used banana plugs with all applicable connections and 16 guage oxygen-free wire. Used Pioneer's MCACC automatic sound tuning system and this went much smoother than anticipated. Blu-ray movies played via my PS3 sound at least as good as in a theatre. Airplay feature is awesome as is the internet radio capability. PS3 and WII games look and sound fantastic. The video scaler can make regular DVD's look about 80-90% as good as Blu-ray movies. I am still learning the nuances of this device after a week and the more I learn, the more impressed I am with this receiver. Buttons are small on the remote and it takes some getting used to, but once familiar with it, the remote is quite functional. I cannot stress enough the importance of carefully reading the manual prior to, during, and after... Read more
