5.0 out of 5 stars All that an Elite should be, March 12, 2011

This review is from: Pioneer SC-37 7.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver (Electronics)
The Elite series from Pioneer has developed a reputation for providing high quality at an affordable price. This is the third Elite receiver I have owned, and it definitely lives up to what it should be. Don't worry, I got the second one to move from 5.1 to 7.1, and I just got this one because the second one got zapped in an electrical storm. (I now have an APC J15 UPS protecting my equipment.)

The SC-37 has all the power you could want in any normal sized environment, and it provides crystal clear sound all the way up to its limit. Of course, I don't listen to anything that loud, which only means that it has plenty of power and headroom for any of my movies and audio.

Right out of the box, it sounded very nice - a bit on the bright side, though. Running the fully automatic MCACC made a very noticeable difference - not quite huge, but almost. Suddenly, the sound was full and rich, without any bright spots, and the spaciality was excellent. It was fun to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great receiver!, January 14, 2011

This review is from: Pioneer SC-37 7.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver (Electronics)
What more can I say about this receiver?! It provides a myriad of inputs including bluetooth connectivity with an optional adapter (works great for music on my iPod touch and iPad). It even has a second HDMI output for another monitor (useful if your viewing activities are those that might put a plasma tv at risk for burn in). The sound quality is phenomenal with 7.1 channels and another 2 for a B-zone setup. The total harmonic distortion is a very low .08% (most standard receivers are somewhere around .9% for reference). Unfortunately, Pioneer does not appear to be offering a receiver that supports a 9.1 channel setup, but I've read some information online that suggests the possibility of using the SC-37/35 for a 9.1 channel setup. I only have the 7 speakers and sub, so I have not investigated this possibility. Although Pioneer did offer a more expensive option in the elite line when I purchased this one, this is the better option since it is newer technology and therefore... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for !, January 17, 2011

Ok
So i just got my Receiver in the mail today and hooked it all up. It sounds amazing.
I have a very Hi-End sound system and was looking for something to replace my Pioneer VSX 54TX which did not support HDMI audio. I am using Krell and Kef speakers in a 7.1 system. I was really excited that this was the new HDMI 1.4 supporting 3D. It comes with many conectivity options and the Ice Amps puting out 140w per channel was plenty of clean power for most of my system.
My front Reference speakers are 4ohm speakers so I am using a separate Rotel 3 channel amp and all intigrate flawlessly. I am not really in to streaming music through my Receiver or TV because my Mitsubishi TV had BlueTooth and Wireless Internet which works just fine. I am using this Receiver for movies and SACD's only.
The MC Calibration worked excellent. I just increased the bass levels a bit as well as the center channel audio.
Calibration took about 5min or so. Lots of buzzing and pops to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Receiver, December 27, 2009

This review is from: Pioneer Elite SC-09TX - AV network receiver - 10.2 channel [Electronics] (Electronics)
I have been looking at this receiver for almost a year. My wife surprised me with it for Christmas/Anniversary gift. Well, i have to say it better than I have ever expected. I was able to Bi-amp my speakers now and I have never heard and experienced audio quality like I have now. Not only is the audio quality second to none, the video quality is great. This unit has many features for making home theatre a piece of cake to setup. I highly recommend this unit for anyone looking for the best in a high end receiver.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Pioneer Elite SC09-TX, August 21, 2011
This review is from: Pioneer Elite SC-09TX - AV network receiver - 10.2 channel [Electronics] (Electronics)
I purchased this unit at the end of 2010. When playing BD movies, sometimes there would be no sound at the start. I had to turn the system off and restart for the sound to come though. So this required a firmware update. The only was to get an update was to remove the receiver from the system and take it to an authorized service center. Once I got the receiver back, the next problem I had was a very loud popping noise when playing certain movies and music cd's. At this time, I have not seen where Pioneer has issued a firmware update on this problem and customer service will not even admit a problem. The popping noise was so loud, I had to remove the receiver from my system. I could not recommend this unit to anybody and the support from Pioneer on this matter is poor, especially for the cost of a "flagship receiver".

Great service, great communication. I tried to order this item from 2 other sites and never got an email or a phone call. George called me within a few hours of my order and this item arrived 48 hours later. Can't wait to hook this baby up!

    5.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet A/V Receiver from Onkyo, September 19, 2011
This review is from: Onkyo TX-NR1009 THX Certified 9.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black) (Electronics)
Note: I purchased this receiver from a local vendor due to its weight as it will cost me an arm and a leg to ship this to Saudi Arabia (350$) and I'll lose the warranty.

I got this a month ago, and I tell you, it is a lovely new achievement from Onkyo. It will satisfy any gadget'ey, high-tech user who has a passion for high quality audio and video.

    - Menus/OSD

Menus/OSD are better than older Onkyos... and yes, you can use your Apple iPad to 'remote control' it. There is a free app, but I purchased 'oRemote' which is a bit more advanced.. seamless and tech'ey... in addition to all other gadegt'ey remote control features using the iPad; you can do functions without turning ON your TV, especially for zone 2/3 via your home's network, like selecting DLNA audio tracks, internet radio and my wife's favorite: turn it off remotely so the kids can go back to their study or me stop watching a movie while lunch is being served (evil laugh here).

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Unit, March 3, 2012
This review is from: Onkyo TX-NR1009 THX Certified 9.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased the Onkyo TX-NR1009 to upgrade from an old Yamaha receiver and the sound is fabulous. I have Polk LSI speakers (15's, Center, FX and LSI 9's) and this receiver drives them extremely well. I bi-amped the main speakers and this is easy to do through the menu's. My unit did not come with a printed manual but other than that I'm very pleased with it.

The sound is very clean and some of the music surround modes such as Neo:x are really excellent. I literally hear things in songs I've never heard before. I wired it with an Ethernet connection to my home network. I understand there is a wireless device you can use to hook it up but it works great wired. It does Pandora great. I also have my music library on an inexpensive home NAS Drive and it plays those songs just fine over Ethernet. I also use a turntable for vinyl and this receiver has a phono pre-amp that works great. I'm still learning what all it can do.

After my initial listen, I ran... Read more

    5.0 out of 5 stars Upgraded from a TX-SR805, July 15, 2012
    By
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Onkyo TX-NR1009 THX Certified 9.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver (Black) (Electronics)
I upgraded from a TX-SR805 just so I could pass 3d signals over the hdmi inputs/outputs. I used my old receiver as my zone 2 amplifier connected via rca out on the TX-NR1009.

*BE ADVISED* if you want to power zone 2 speakers through this receiver you will end up sacrificing part of your 9.2 surround setup to power those zone 2 speakers. It is best to run a second receiver to power zone 2 speakers such as I did. Figured this was something worth mentioning since I did not realize it when I made the purchase.

This is a massive upgrade from the TX-SR805. The thing I notice most is the highly accurate reproduction of sound on every different available sound field. Much clearer and more concise than the TX-SR805. To top it off EVERYTHING on this receiver is highly configurable almost to the point it is overkill. The +GAMMA feature in video settings is a huge plus in my book. 3D video pass through via hdmi is no problem and the receiver handles the signals with... Read more
